How and why has Zionism brought a Jewish state back onto the stage of history, if it is to become a state “like any other”? And why, in spite of everything, does the “Eternity of Israel” paradoxically announce itself in this undertaking? Drawing on biblical thought and history to shed light on the political and military crisis of recent months in Israel, this book seeks to understand and resolve this contradiction by imagining a second age of Zionism, which would bring to fruition the hope that the achievements and, above all, the resurgence of a Jewish state – in a worldwide fracas twenty centuries after its disappearance… – will have raised. Returning to the prophetic fundamentals of the “return to Zion”, in its universal as well as singular promise, Shmuel Trigano in this book clears the overgrown path that leads “from Zion to Jerusalem”, in a perspective that would make it the point of convergence for the peoples of humanity.
